Bere Regis

  • A NEW year’s party for the garden club was a happy and festive evening with lots of conversation and laughter, and a delicious supper prepared by the committee.

Musical entertainment was provided by two members of the Drax Arms guitar club, Graham Dee and Pip Evans.

Club member Mary Chamberlain joined them on stage and sang several songs that were greatly appreciated by the audience.

The next meeting of the garden club is a talk entitled The Secret World of the Violet by Clive Groves, national collection holder of violets, on Tuesday, February 1 at 7.30pm in the Drax Hall.

  • MOTHERS’ Union invite you to a social morning at Turberville Court on Saturday, January 22 from 10.30am until noon.

There will be refreshments, bring and buy and a raffle.

  • A MEETING of the village forum is planned for Saturday, February 19.

As soon as I have more details about this, I will let you have them.

  • A VILLAGE party on Friday, April 29 will celebrate the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middletown.

The parish council is at present discussing with the sports club the possibility of using the recreation ground as a venue, and hope that village organisations and families will want to join in.

  • AUTUMN Leaves Over 50s group has a meeting on Wednesday, January 12 at 2.30pm in the Drax Hall when David Andrews will entertain everyone with his stories and music.

Puddletown

  • A FAMILY communion service will be held on Sunday, January 23 at 11am to celebrate the completion of the repairs to the church, with the Rev’d Benny Hazlehurst and the Archdeacon of Sherborne, the Ven Paul Taylor.
  • DON’T forget to reserve your tickets for the Burns Night supper and entertainment in the village hall on Tuesday, January 25 at 7.30pm.

  • FAREWELL will be said to the Rev’d Benny Hazlehurst and his family at a benefice service in St Mary’s church on Sunday, January 30 at 11am.

This will be followed by a bring-and-share lunch in Puddletown village hall.

  • THE next meeting of the horticultural association will be on Tuesday, January 19 at 7.30pm in the village hall.

It is planned that this will be a talk by Nick Tomlinson of the RSPB

Tolpuddle

  • WASSAILING has had to be changed to the evening of Saturday, January 22 in order that all the Muddlecombe Men can attend.

Meet at the Martyrs’ Inn at 6.30pm, and from there you will be visiting different parts of the village where the Muddlecombe Men will serenade the apple trees to ensure a good harvest.

The supper will be served at the Martyrs’ Inn at 7.30pm.
