Puddletown

  • A FASHION show by JAS fashion held at St Mary’s Middle School was a fun evening enjoyed by all who came along to support it.

Local models included both adults and children who all did a great job on the runway.

Even the youngest of the models all remembered their smiles and twirls in the right places!

As a result of the evening, around £150 was made for school funds.

  • A PARISH picnic will be held at Duddle Farm after the family service on Sunday, June 12.
  • GARDENS throughout Puddletown will be open to the public on Sunday, June 19.

There will also be a mini flower festival in the church.

  • A FLOWER festival is to be held in the church on Friday, July 15, Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17.

The festival will have the theme of children’s book titles, with interpretive flower arrangements throughout the church.

  • AT APRIL’S parish council meeting, the county councillor, Mrs Alex Brenton updated everyone on the impact of the budget cuts being made at the county council.

As previously reported this includes changes to the library service and a consultation process has begun on this.

Everyone is encouraged to take part, even if you do not use a library as it would be helpful to know why not.

Whilst the parish does not have a library, you may visit another one elsewhere and have views on that.

You may also use the mobile library that visits the parish.

If you are interested in taking part in the consultation please go to www.dorsetforyou.com/libraryconsultation2011.

The fund raising for the village hall redevelopment has reached a stage where work on phase 1 of the project could start very shortly.

This will mean that a lot of contents within the village hall will be transferred to storage for safe keeping.

Within the village hall is also a large amount of Bladen Estate crockery that was included in the sale of the village hall by the Debenham estate.

It was suggested that a full set of this crockery should remain within the hall and another set transferred to the county museum should they be interested.

It is possible that the remainder could be sold to interested residents with the proceeds going towards the village hall.

If such a move was agreed then it would not happen without wider consultation.

However if any of you have any thoughts if this then please get in touch with either a parish councillor or the parish clerk.

Whilst on the subject of the Debenham estate, a lecture has been organised on May 20 about the history of the Debenham estate and farming in Briantspuddle.

Please contact the museum on 01305 262735 or visit www.dorsetcountymuseum.org.

Full minutes of the meeting and agendas will be on the parish website when completed and the next meeting of the Parish Council will be on Wednesday 11 May, 2011 at 7pm in Briantspuddle village hall For more information, look at www.briantspuddle.info The parish clerk is Anthony Braine (07887 594072) and the chairman is Nick Gore (01305 848130).
