Bere Regis

  • A ROYAL Wedding Celebration was the title of the Woodbury Hill Singers’ concert held recently.

Everyone had such a happy afternoon – it was a fantastic and wonderful event in which everyone joined, Kath Jeeves tells me

There was a full house, she adds, and everyone wore a hat or a buttonhole.

Entertainment was provided by Ernie Bradshaw and John England, and a cream tea was provided by the WI.

This splendid afternoon raised funds for the village hall.

  • AT THE April meeting of the parish council, it was reported that Southern Electric will be changing 150 of the 215 street and bollard lights in Bere Regis in May.

The meeting was assured that it should involve very few changes to the position of the lights but do contact SSE on 0800 068 4145 if you have any queries.

The police reported 17 crimes in Bere Regis since the start of the year. They were as follows • 3 Criminal Damages

• 6 Theft from Motor Vehicles

• 5 Other thefts

• 1 Burglary Dwelling

• 1 Other

.

Following concerns expressed by some residents we asked Purbeck district council to suspend the planned tree works and an Officer from the Council attended the meeting to explain what was planned.

The Bere Regis Show, of which the parish council is a sponsor, to be held at the scout hut on August 15.

We want this to be a success and hope that many of you will become involved in showing your produce, flowers, crafts and photographs.

For more information contact Sue Stone on 01929 471933.

A Parish Councillor will be joining Peter Wharf our district councillor at the regular surgery he holds at Turberville Court on the first Saturday of each month from 9.30am until 10am.

We have decided to combine and hold a joint surgery as many of the issues raised cut across parish, district and county responsibilities and it makes sense for us to work together to address any issues that arise.

  • THIS is almost the last time I shall be writing a column of news for my four villages of Affpuddle, Bere Regis, Puddletown and Tolpuddle, and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has given me such wonderful support throughout the past 12 years.

I have enjoyed going to so many local events with my camera over the years, and have had so much fun being part of the life of four such active and community-spirited villages.

Thank you all!
