BROADWEY Village Stores celebrated its first birthday on Saturday with a really busy day.

Wine-tasting and a chance to try some of the good local foods supplied by the shop attracted lots of people and the Blakeys look forward to seeing more and more customers old and new at their very well-stocked store.

Don’t forget that you can now buy postage stamps there and that you can park behind the furniture shop next door.

BONFIRE NIGHT went with a bang and showers of sparkles.

Lots of people came with their children and clearly enjoyed their evening – there seems to be something special about walking across a field in the dark.

Many thanks as always to the Foot family farmers and to Mr. and Mrs. Silver of Upwey House. We look forward to seeing you and your friends next November 5.

CHOCOLATE BROWNIES to die for - two local ladies have expanded their love of cooking into a business producing unusual cakes, biscuits, breads and foodie trinkets.

For several years Lizzie Crow had been supplying the Old Ship Inn on the Ridgeway with delicious puds and preserves and has now teamed up with Bekki to set up “Homemade by Lizzie and Bekki” and they’re going great guns supplying farmers markets, Broadwey Village Stores and several other businesses in the area.

They source locally as many of their ingredients as possible, they cook fresh and to order.

Christmas hampers, starting at £10, are full of small packets of gorgeous things and they’re taking orders now until December 1.

Another thought – Lizzie and Bekki are interested in doing party catering, so bear them in mind if you’ve got something special coming up.

REMEMBRANCE Sunday is a very special day for many people.

This year, as part of the service at St Laurence’s, some of the older members of the congregation was invited to recall for the children some of their memories of living through the Second World War.

It’s hoped that these stories may be collected together and read from time to time.

LOOKING forward to the season of Christmas fairs, St Laurence Church will be holding its annual bazaar at the Old School Village Hall on Saturday, November 28, 10.30am-3pm.

There will be all the usual attractions – stalls, raffle, light lunches and teas and something special for the children.

Do come if you can.

AT THE OLD SHIP Inn on Sunday, December 6, from 11am to 3pm there’s to be the Upwey Christmas Fayre in aid of Julia’s House, the children’s hospice.

Again, all sorts of stalls, and no doubt you’ll find some of Lizzie and Bekki’s goodies, along with a raffle, cards and calendars, live music and a quiz in the pub, all sorts of eats - and Santa expects to be there.

MEANWHILE down at the Old School the Upwey Potters offer you Pots, Presents and Pies – solutions to all your Christmas present problems.

They’re running for three days December 4, 5 and 6 from 10am to 6pm each day and mince pies to keep you going.
