Chippy's coaches head for Street

ON WEDNESDAY, November 12, two coachloads of local people were treated to a free trip to Street for Christmas shopping. John and Karen Pearce from Alfs Fish and Chip shop organized this and provided everyone with sausage and chips for supper on their return. A PERFORMANCE by the Amberlite Majorettes at 1pm will be the first entertainment on the programme at the annual Christmas bazaar at Wyke community centre. This event to raise funds for the centre will be held on Saturday November 29, from noon to 3.30pm.

DESPITE at least one heavy downpour and a strong gusty wind ladies of all ages poured into Wyke Infants School during the evening of Friday, November 7, to enjoy the Township Charity’s Ladies Night. Wyke’s very own mini craft, trade and lifestyle exhibition showcased several local businesses, including Weymouth Deli who had a mouthwatering selection of preserves and gourmet pates such as wild boar, roe deer and ostrich on their table.

Open Spaces pledge help to save Weymouth open space

THE Open Spaces Society recently pledged a donation of £5,000 towards legal costs incurred by the Society for the Protection of Markham and Little Francis in their ongoing campaign to save the 42 acre green space formerly known as Curtis fields which was registered by Dorset County Council as a town green in 2001. This registration has been challenged by owner Betterment Properties who applied to the High Court to have the land struck from the register.

THE hall in Gallwey Road was once again packed at the popular annual concerts by Wyke Regis W.I. Choir staged on two consecutive evenings earlier this month. The choir’s diction is always consistently superb and their music of a very high standard which, combined with their sparkling performance and obvious enjoyment, makes them a pleasure both to listen to and watch.

Up and Running back in town

DUE TO popular demand a pre-Christmas barn dance has been arranged. The first dance featuring prestigious band 'Up and Running' was held last June to help raise money for Markham and Little Francis Protection Society and was a huge success.
