Carol singers warmly received by local residents

  • CAROL singers raised £147.51 for the Society for the Protection of Markham and Little Francis towards their campaign to save the town green.

Several householders came out and stood in their doorways to listen and some had special requests sung to them.

An additional £1591.20 was raised by the grand raffle, the winners being announced at the latest pub quiz held in aid of the campaign and well supported by the local community.

  • ONE of the subjects discussed at a recent Wyke Pact meeting was the “20 is Plenty” scheme, for which funding has now been secured. Locations for the signs will be investigated in the New Year.

The main topic at the meeting was bad parking.

WPB Councillor Christine James, brief holder for transport, said many drivers ignore or are unaware of the rules in the Highway Code which prohibit parking on bends, junctions and on the brow of a hill. More consideration of other road users is needed and perhaps all PACT groups should campaign for a better knowledge of the Highway Code.

The next Wyke Regis PACT meeting will take place on Thursday, January at Wyke Working Man’s Club.

If you are unable to attend but want to bring a problem to the attention of the group please contact the Chairman, Kate Wheller, on 01305 839747.

  • IF THE festive season has taken its toll on your waistline and you fancy trying a fun way to keep fit for the new year, why not come along to the beginners Scottish Country Dancing sessions held at Wyke Infant School every Thursday evening from 7.30pm to 9.45pm, beginning on Thursdayu, January 7.

Suitable footwear is available and you can pay per evening if you’re reluctant to commit every week for a whole half term.

We’re a friendly bunch of all abilities and ages. Telephone Judith on 01305 833660 for further details.
