  • PLANS are well underway for this summer’s Active Westham events which are being coordinated this year by the Westham community group.

Activities will be taking place every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday throughout the school holidays with community action every Saturday afternoon.

These sessions have been subsidised by a grant of £5000 from the Community Health Budget of the NHS and are open to all young people living in Westham, aged 8-16.

There is a charge for each activity but parents who have been informed by their schools they are eligible for the Step-up programme are entitled to claim the cost of these charges.

There are still a few places left for most days. Contact Councillor David Harris on 01305 781660 for further information.

As part of the activity Westham will be represented in Weymouth carnival by a float with the theme "Alice in Westhamland".

Anyone not involved in the other activities who would nevertheless like to help with the float is invited to telephone David on the above number.

  • ST.EDMUNDS church fete will be held in the grounds in Lanehouse Rocks Road on Saturday, July 10.

This year there will be displays by The Green Barrows, The Dorset Police dog handling section with their dogs; the“Juno” Belly-Dancers and the Amberlights Majorettes. As always there will be a skittles competition with separate categories for men, women and children, along with a coconut shy and big darts. The fete will go on whatever the weather as there are plenty of rooms indoors to accommodate the attractions if needs be, as per last year when the fete made a record profit despite the cold and rain.
