• SUCCESSFUL slimmer Simon Lewis recently went to Slimming World’s headquarters to meet the legendary Peter Shilton. Simon was presented with a signed World Cup football to celebrate his remarkable 7 stone weight loss.

Winner of a local slimming competition, Simon dropped from 19st 12lbs to 12st 12lbs, qualifying him to represent Wyke Regis in the semi-finals of Slimming World’s Man of the Year 2010 competition. Simon says: “Joining Slimming World is the best decision I’ve ever made. My weight was starting to dominate my life. It was stopping me from doing the things I wanted to do, wearing the clothes I wanted to wear and, ultimately, being the person I wanted to be. I feel like a new man in so many ways, but I’m the same person I always was deep down. I can still go to the pub and have a pint with my mates or go out for a meal with my family, Slimming World’s Food Optimising eating plan is brilliant. I’ve never felt hungry and it fits around my life rather than the other way around.

“Meeting Peter Shilton was the perfect way to celebrate reaching my weight loss goal .”

Slimming World Consultant Sue Glenn, who runs the Wyke Regis group which Simon attends, says: “I’m so proud of Simon and what he’s achieved. He never misses a week at group and he’s a real inspiration to the other members, showing them that anything’s achievable when you put your mind to it.

“It’s a huge achievement for anyone to change their life so drastically but I’m particularly proud of Simon. Taking that first step by joining a slimming group can be much harder for men because they often don’t know what to expect on the other side of the door. It’s often the first time they’ve even considered getting help to lose weight and it’s not something they talk about with their friends like women do! But they soon see that there’s nothing to be worried about and all that’s waiting on the other side of the door is a wonderfully warm welcome and chance to change their life – or perhaps even save their life.”

Shilton, says: “I take my hat off to Simon. His incredible story will show other men that losing weight and getting help from slimming clubs isn’t just a women’s game and they can do it too. In fact, if Simon is anything to go by us men could give the ladies a run for their money in the slimming stakes!”
