• THE Friends Of Wyke Gardens joined with local Rotary Clubs to plant 5000 crocus bulbs in the gardens at Portland Road. The bulbs were purchased and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Weymouth Harbourside as part of a nationwide scheme to raise money towards the final push to eradicate polio worldwide. It is hoped the purple crocuses will be in bloom on February 23, which is Rotary’s ‘Thanks for Life’ Day.

  • THERE are still some spaces available for an outing for local people who can’t easily get out and about under their own steam because of the limitations of age or infirmity. Two coaches will be taking over 100 people for a treat outing to Strete in November.

This is being organised and largely funded by John and Karen Pearce from Alfs Fish and Chip shop at Fiveways.

The coaches will leave from the Methodist Church in Chickerell at 10am on Wednesday, November 17.

John and Karen are kindly providing a free sausage and chip supper for the travellers on their return late afternoon.

If you live locally, have difficulty getting out and about but are still able to manage coach steps and walking short distances, albeit with walking aid, and would like to be considered for a place on this trip, telephone John and Karen on 01305 783342.

Contributions towards the cost of funding this and other community ventures are welcomed and may be given to the Pearces at their shop.

  • SOME residents in Goldcroft Road are concerned after recent attacks on cats by a rogue dog roaming off leash which has managed to get into one or two back gardens backing onto the playing field also bordered by Heathwood Road.

One cat has been attacked more than once, running up large vets bills and causing considerable distress to both pet and owner.

It is feared that sometime such a dog on the loose could attack a child ‘safely’ playing unattended in a back garden so residents are urged to make sure their boundaries are secure, keep on the alert and be aware of the potential danger.
