Welcome to the first column of the New Year! All through Wyke and Westham, December was quite a whirl. Beachview Community Centre celebrated with a fine buffet and with carols from the choir of
Wyke Regis Junior School. The young singers turned in a simply amazing performance. Fiveways Community Centre celebrated Christmas lunch with over 40 diners sharing a delicious meal at Wellworthy
Social Club, with dancing to live music. Dorset Close Christmas lunch was a great success too.

Wyke REGIS: WORDPLAY took Wyke by storm for the second year running. An inspiring mix of readings and music kept residents entertained at Wyke Memorial Hall. We
joined in on “Juice-Alem”, an apple-cheeked version of the well-loved hymn, swooned to the romance of “Yes, I remember it well”, and thrilled to the voices of Sophie and Philippa Easthope. Nunsuch
took the stage for a colourful grand finale. A fabulous £400 was raised for Wyke Memorial Hall. Organizer Michael Wheller would like to thank Gary Hepburn and Samantha on sound and lights, all the
entertainers and all those who supported the event.

WHILST being sure I’m making the right decision, it is with sadness and after some thought that I write my final contribution for this column. Unfortunately our terms and conditions as

I want to say an enormous thank you to everyone who has sent me their news over these past 5 years.

VOLUNTEERS from the allotment holders at Westham Crossroads Allotments worked hard to surface a second major trackway, fixing weed suppressant covers in place before tipping donated tarmac
chippings onto this, raking it smooth and rolling it to create a level path and easier access.

Volunteers have also begun the hard work of clearing thick brambles and weeds from a neglected and overgrown corner of the allotments, preparing it to eventually become a wildlife corner and
  socialising area.
