Event will focus ideas ahead of the Olympics
A CONFERENCE is offering people the chance to share ideas on the future of Dorset ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games.
More than 30 organisations and businesses have already signed up to the free event, Dorset's Big Future - Growing the 2012 Legacy for Dorset'.
They include Dorset Police, Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy and The Prince's Trust.
Others include the Dorset Echo, Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, Creative Dorset and Island Volunteers for You (IVY).
The event is aimed at community development workers, community leaders, councillors, voluntary workers and those working in education, heritage, sports, environment, as well as business and health organisations.
It welcomes people who want to make a change and take advantage of the opportunities presented by Weymouth hosting the 2012 sailing events.
International speaker and outdoor adventurer Jack Russell will open the event.
He will be followed by a series of speakers and workshops covering areas such as economy and skills, health and sport, culture, education and the environment.
The conference is being organised by Team Dorset and Dorset Strategic Partnership.
Chairman of the partnership Simon Raynes urged anyone with the energy and enthusiasm to share ideas for their community to attend.
The event is funded by The Academy of Sustainable Communities and Creating Excellence.
It is taking place on Monday March 31 from 9.30am until 4pm at Portland Spa and Conference Centre at Southwell Park, Portland
Attendance is free although numbers are limited and early booking is advised.
