TV HISTORIAN David Starkey delivered a talk on the Tudors to a capacity crowd at a Dorchester school.

The lecture in Thomas Hardye School's theatre was preceded and followed by a performance of medieval music by Weymouth-based musician Stuart Cave.

Sixth form history students at the school also had a private workshop with the expert before the lecture, which was entitled 'Why the Tudors matter'.

The school's assistant deputy headteacher Richard Cain said: "The workshop was held to support the work of our A-level history students.

"It was too good an opportunity for them to miss out on really.

"For the lecture it was an absolutely full house and held to celebrate getting our new humanities college status. "As part of that status we're committed to holding these community lectures, so we contacted Mr Starkey and he said he was able to help us and deliver this talk."

The 500 tickets available for the lecture were snapped up within an hour of going on sale.

Mr Cain added: "The lecture had almost a pop concert status."
