In the history of swimming in Weymouth, two nurses stand out; Nurse Peters, who taught literally thousands of children to swim in the 1940s, 50s and 60s, for Weymouth Swimming Club – and Nurse Craven who captured the town’s imagination in 1925 with her intention to swim the English Channel.
