IN three years, Dorset Youth Association (DYA) will celebrate 70 years of providing help, advice, friendship and support to youngsters.
This week in Looking Back we are publishing a number of DYA photographs and helping the association to appeal for more.
DYA youth fundraising officer Aimee Malcolm said: “The young people we work with today want to put together an archive. We have some lovely photographs but we need more people who have been helped and have experience of the service to come forward.
“Some of the oldest people to have benefited from our service are now in their 80s. There may have been occasions when three generations of the same family have experience of us. We’d love to hear from these people.”
The main aim of the DYA is to improve the quality of life for young people in Dorset. It offers a programme of informal education, which promotes personal and social development and enables young people to reach their full potential and become valued members of society.
The association assists them in finding volunteering work, helps with personal issues such as housing and sexual health and provides venues where young people can get together, meet people and have fun.
As these photos show, fun has always played a key part in the DYA, whether it is playing team sports, organising outdoor events or residential breaks at Baggator Farm on Dartmoor – sadly no longer used by the association.
