A CHARITY football match commemorating the life of a former Weymouth mayor and keen soccer fan takes place on April 27.

The Doug Hollings Memorial Trophy match will take place at The Grove on Portland on Friday at 6.30pm. The match will be between Portland United and Weymouth Victoria – the cup has been won by Portland United for the past two years so Weymouth Victoria are hoping for a better result this time round.

It is free entry in aid of the Julia’s House children’s charity and everyone is welcome.

Doug Hollings was a very popular former Mayor and football fan. He starting with the Weymouth Wizards aged 11 and then playing for AUWE.

In later life he became a regular Terras supporter along with many of his playing colleagues.

The cup will be presented by his widow Di and son David after the match.

The picture is of Doug and the AUWE team in 1959. Many of the players still live in the area – can anyone name the players?
