Isles of smiles at 1930s carnival
 |
| The British Isles float in Dorchester Carnival in the 1930s |
THIS Year's Dorchester Carnival inspired Janet Martin (nee Wilkinson) of Linden Avenue, Dorchester, to send in this photo of her, her sister and her friends on a British Isles' float in the 1930s.
She wrote: Happy memories in this photo of a pre-war Dorchester Carnival when the lorries started from a wonderfully spacious barracks square.'
The girls pictured, from left to right, are: Margery Loader, Mary Wilkinson, Catherine Dunnett, Kathleen Macdonald, Janet Wilkinson and Ida Holt.
The girls are dressed up to represent (from left to right): England, Scotland and Ireland.
Mrs Martin added: "I cannot remember the small girl (sitting behind Mary Wilkinson), but hopefully the person in the check shirt was rooting for Wales."
If you have any information about the girls in 01305 830971, email lookingback@dorsetecho.co.uk or write to Looking Back, Dorset Echo, Fleet House, Hampshire Road, Weymouth, Dorset, DT4 9XD
