On the buses – with horses!
KEEN collector of old Weymouth postcards Derek Amey of Lanehouse is thrilled with his latest find - these four postcards of the old horse bus on the Esplanade.
"I would assume the horse bus in those days was run by the Royal Hotel?" he said.
"But three have the name Royal Pearl. I would be interested to hear from old-timers out there who may remember them."
On the back of one picture (the one taken below the Jeyes Fluid advertisement) someone has written: Mrs Glass and family taken at Weymouth, September 1930, myself holding the reins.'
Mr Amey continued: "A shilling return fare to Upwey Wishing Well was rather expensive in those days.
"One wonders how much travel time the driver had to get from Upwey and back."
If you can remember the horse bus or know something about it, get in touch with Nicola Rayner on the contact details below.
