THE Legendary Piddle Valley Players are about to perform Fiddler on the Roof Based on Sholem Aleichem’s stories at Piddletrenthide Memorial Hall near Dorchester on February 21, 22 and 23.

Performances are at 7pm with a 2pm Saturday matinee.

Fiddler is a barn-storming musical set in rural Russian in the run-up to the Revolution. A Jewish family led by Tevye (Peter Lindsley) and his wife Golde (Mel Cox) moves with the ebb and flow of history as the parents try to marry off their daughters and survive in a changing world.

The show is packed with excellent songs, including the ever-popular If I was a Rich Man, Matchmaker and Sunrise Sunset and this adaptation will be a wonderful night out for all the family.

Tickets are £8 available from Piddletrenthide Village Shop and Buckland Newton Stores. Show spokeswoman Rachel Olley said: “This has never been performed on such a small stage and the show has been adapted to give the best we can to show this heart breaking, passionate and joyful story.”

Also definitely worth catching this weekend is Preston Pantomime Players’ adaptation of Little Miss Muffet.

The show is a gorgeously costumed nursery rhyme adaptation with a twist. Expect lots of madcap merriment, laughter, wonderful boo-hiss baddies, lovely goodies and a dame with one of the best selections of frocks ever seen on an amateur stage.

Little Miss Muffet is at Preston Village Hall near Weymouth today and tomorrow at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Tickets are £6 plus concessions from the box office on 01305 834410.
