IF YOU know a young person whose interests and talents lie in the direction of the stage, why not take them along to Curtainraisers, Weymouth Drama Club’s section for young people.

The thriving organisation currently runs five groups for different age groups and has a busy diary of other events including fight workshops and trips to see professional shows.

Gina Huntley, who helps run the Curtainraisers, said: “We aim to do so many things with the Curtainraisers and we are all about developing talent, enjoying theatre, embracing individuality, enriching lives and creating opportunities for young people.

“Recently we have been involved in a number of activities such as Play in a Day and our Applause group, which is for seven to 11-year-olds who are putting on a version of Macbeth.

“The Cheers group are currently writing and acting in their own pantomime, we have had a fight workshop with Keith Wallis who is an acting professional from London, as well as various trips and workshops with Salisbury Theatre.”

Gina added: “To top it all off in November we are putting on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at Weymouth Pavilion. We usually do one play a year at the Pavilion and this one is promising to be a brilliant experience for the children. If children want to be part of this then they will need to be a member from the summer term, which starts on April 23.”
