A WEYMOUTH bakery is celebrating after being named Best Sweet Bakery at the Taste of the West Awards.

Rolly’s Brownies scooped the top award at the ceremony in Bristol after winning two gold and a silver award for their toffee flapjack, gluten free salted caramel brownies and the Christmas spiced cranberry brownies, earlier in the year.

Those who win a gold award are put through to the Best Sweet Bakery contest. Judges praised the brownies as ‘wonderfully moreish’ and ‘just delicious’.

The Weymouth bakery uses locally sourced ingredients from Dorset including eggs from Sherborne and flour from Shaftesbury.

Bakery owner Helen Rollinson said they were delighted to win.

She said: “It’s great – it’s amazing.”

She added that the competition had been pretty stiff but when the judges started to make their comments she had an inkling that they could win.

She was presented with the award by Glenn Cosby from the Great British Bake Off.

The Rolly’s Brownies team went out for a drink to celebrate in Bristol after the awards.

The bakery has won a number of other awards over the years including gluten free double choc chip brownies being recognised in 2012 with a gold award and Best Sweet Bakery in the Taste of the West Awards. For more details visit rollysbrownies.co.uk
