A WEYMOUTH sommelier has been appointed Chairman South West of UK Sommelier Association.

Andrea Bonelli, Manager and Sommelier at Al Molo on Weymouth seafront, has just been awarded the role.

The UK Sommelier Association is part of and built on the same foundations and the principles of the Italian Sommelier Association.

The Italian Sommelier Association has offered wine education since 1965.

The UK Sommelier Association is a team of accredited wine professionals, who are dedicated and passionate about wine. Their sommeliers have become synonymous with passing on the art of ‘Sommelierie’, knowledge and a greater appreciation of fine wines and spirits to UK.

In his role Mr Bonelli oversees, writes, prepares and delivers courses for the UK Sommelier Association.

These courses are designed and run to help people gain a great depth of knowledge of wines and how to combine with food.

Mr Bonelli joined Al Molo in April this year, a month after the restaurant opened and he works as the Restaurant Manager and Head Sommelier. Mr Bonelli has worked in the restaurant industry since 1988.

He spends his time between Weymouth and London juggling his two roles.

Al Molo is a fine dining Italian restaurant at the Pier Bandstand is the creation of Giuseppe Vannucci and his partner Tim Newton.

Earlier this year the restaurant achieved national recognition from the Italian Chamber Of Commerce with the “Marchio Ospitalità Italiana” seal of quality award.

Giuseppe Vannucci said: “We are very proud of Andrea getting this appointment, it’s a very prestigious role within one of the UK’s most renowned and respected wine associations.

“For us it means that Al Molo can now host courses and events that will utilise Andrea’s connections, knowledge and expertise on a national level.”

Mr Bonelli added: “It is our aim to make high level wine education as engaging and enjoyable as possible.

“My role will bring a new educational string to Al Molo’s bow.”
