TODAY is International Carrot Day
And with big health benefits, there’s never been a better time to enjoy a rabbit’s favourite food. Here are three reasons to eat more.
1. See in the dark- The old wives’ tale isn’t that much of a myth. Carrots contain beta-carotene, which the human body converts into Vitamin A. Although this isn’t enough to cure existing problems, the level of vitamin A found in beta-carotene helps protect the surface of the eye from future damage.
2. Reduce the risk of cancer - A natural pesticide found in carrots called falcarinol is said to guard you from cancer when eaten on a regular basis.
Carrots contain antioxidants known as carotenoids, which research has shown have cancer-fighting properties.
3. Heart Protection - As well as beta-carotene, carrots contain alpha carotene and lutein, both of which have heart-protecting properties.
Even beta-carotene itself is an antioxidant.
