BUTCHERS and restaurants across the town are supporting a drive to buy British when it comes to beef.

This week marks Great British Beef Week and, after the horsemeat scandal and news that many farmers affected by the extreme weather are fighting for survival, it is being promoted as a great opportunity for families to support the farming community.

The week was set up by a group of female beef farmers who are passionate about their product, ‘Ladies in Beef’. Started three years ago by Minette Batters from Salisbury and Jilly Greed from Devon, the group now has members across the country.

This year’s campaign aims to help shoppers and diners know how to have complete confidence in the quality, traceability and health benefits of the beef they buy, and raise awareness of the work of farming welfare charity the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution.

To celebrate Great British Beef Week, tonight at The Print Room on Richmond Hill, pictured, will see Beef Night. The evening will see a change to the menu to simply beef, British Beef and nothing else using only quality ingredients from local suppliers.

Think juicy steaks, cuts of topside and homemade burgers all sourced from local farmers by the local butcher.

The Print Room’s Head Chef will be serving the most tender, full flavoured beef cuts in Bournemouth; using the finest, prime cut beef. Complimenting this is a comprehensive wine list that caters for every celebration, taste and budget, ranging from simple rustic reds by the glass to bottles of Champagne.

It's the perfect excuse to enjoy a steak in town whether a special occasion or treat. So why not pop along and support British Beef farmers.
