What will you be eating for Christmas dinner?

By Sarah Cartlidge »

THINK Christmas dinner and you always think turkey.

We’ve eaten it every year in our house (that I can remember) despite my sister and dad not actually being that keen.

Most people I know don’t eat it for the other 364 days of the year, but just couldn’t imagine anything else accompanying their roast potatoes and sprouts on Christmas Day.

So it's over to you.

Are you a stickler for tradition and always have turkey? Do you prefer chicken, goose or beef? Or do you hate the fuss and opt for something else altogether?

We've decided to go for Roast Beef, this year. We had a huge Gammon Ham last year and a turkey is just too big for the three of us. Even a turkey crown doesn't suit, because of the lack of brown meat. I'd rather not have a turkey than not have the brown meat! So this year we'll be having a Sirloin, together with a Fennel & Cherry Tomato Gratin, roasted Butternut Squash, brussels sprouts with bacon and yorkshire puds. We did consider having a whole salmon, but again the potential for too many leftovers killed that idea. To be honest, I've also considered just having a curry - it seems like such a huge palaver just for the one day. However, it wouldn't feel like Christmas without the Roast Dinner production!

Having just been made redundant (so the Fat Cats can make more money!) we will be lucky if we can afford a meal on Christmas Day.

Turtlebay, having been in that position more than once in the past, I can thoroughly recommend making a trip to your local supermarket at around 1-2hrs before they close on Christmas Eve. The mark-downs are just awesome - and you should be able to get something for Xmas dinner for a fraction of the cost. Good luck.

Three bird roast from Aldi. Was enough last year for four of us . No waste and good enough to buy a second one in freezer for Easter.

What will you be eating for Christmas dinner? What will you be eating for Christmas dinner?
