What's your top hangover food?

AS the party season gets into full swing, research shows that tucking into eggs the morning after a big night out can do more than simply satisfy your tastebuds – they can also help fight your hangover and improve alertness.

Research has found that cysteine, the amino acid found in eggs, counteracts the poisonous effects of acetaldehyde, the chemical produced by the body as it metabolises alcohol.

Acetaldehyde is responsible for the headaches, nausea and other unpleasant consequences of drinking one too many glasses of wine.

In a poll of 3,000 Brits last year, the good old English fry up (eggs, bacon, beans, hash browns and toast) was voted the nation’s favourite meal when suffering from a hangover, ahead of the bacon sandwich.

The UK's top ten hangover foods

1. English fry up

2. Bacon sandwich

3. Eggs and bacon

4. McDonald’s breakfast

5. Beans on toast

6. Poached eggs on toast

7. Stuffed crust pizza

8. Cereal

9. Eggs and soldiers

10. Croissant

So now it's over to you. What's your top hangover food/cure?

For me it has to be the "Boscombe Breakfast" - a bottle of vodka and a snickers.

A fry up is always welcome, hangover or no; however, if you've gone too far the night before a breakfast of:
- Kiwi fruit juice
- paracetamol
- mugs (and more mugs) of peppermint tea
*
In Hong Kong though I had one dish (too many times) which is called Kwun Tong Kow (a prawn dumpling with soup) which worked a treat.
*
Unfortunately it contains sharks fin, so no more...
*
In Malaysia and Singapore, try Roti Canai (MY)/Prata (SG) with Kopi and Jus Oren. The fried bread with spicy curry sauce is to die fo and the sweet coffee and orange jus - 2/3 glasses are a boon.
