PUT the kettle on for a worthy cause next month in support of Bournemouth Hospital Charity’s Brew Up for Dementia campaign.

All money raised through events, from small tea parties with friends to cake sales in church halls, will go towards helping patients with dementia.

Dementia affects around 820,000 people in the UK with the figure set to double by 2030.

Last year around 2,600 patients with dementia were treated at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH).

Dr Sue Hazel, consultant in medicine for the elderly at RBH, said: “The number of patients we see with dementia is set to increase due to an ageing population and the high percentage of elderly people that live in the Bournemouth area.” Lindsey Sturman, fundraising manager for Bournemouth Hospital Charity, said: “It’s really easy to get involved.

“Grab your kettle, some tea bags and coffee and tempt your guests along by offering some tasty cakes too – who could refuse?

“Raise money by asking for a donation per slice of cake or you could charge a couple of pounds entry. A great tip is to arrange it late morning when your guests will be hungry.”

Bournemouth Hospital Charity aims to raise £2m each year. Donations provide funding for much needed equipment and resources.
