YOUNG Layla Hutcheson beat a panel of grown-ups in an ice cream and popping candy race at a charity event which was held last Sunday.

The sweet-toothed six-year-old took part in the ice cream race organised by Bournemouth restaurant Longhorn Burgers.

It was just one heat in The Great Longhorn Burger Race to support Hope for Children and local charity Julia’s House.

Restaurant owner Simon French said: “The race to Longhorn was all about having a fun day in the restaurant whilst supporting two very deserving causes.

“There’s always a good appetite for a burger challenge and it was great to see our competitors get stuck in.

“The event was so successful we are planning a follow-up event later this year to see if the record of five mini burgers in 90 seconds can be beaten.”

During the main course event, entrants raced to see who could eat the most mini burgers in 90 seconds.

One heat was a battle between husband and wife, narrowly won by bar manager Danielski who managed to eat three and a half mini burgers to his wife’s two and a half.

The record was set at five burgers in a single round, achieved jointly by chef Rafal, owner Simon and regular customer Toby.

There was also a raffle with prizes including an AFC Bournemouth shirt signed by the players was also held during the day.

In addition, Longhorn waitress Hannah will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of the charity in August.

Ian Searle, volunteer with Julia’s House, added: “It is support from the local communities that enables the Julia’s House service to continue.

“With less than eight per cent of our funding coming from the government, the majority of funding is from the support of local people, groups and businesses, like Longhorn Burgers.”
