A WINE estate is opening its new cafe to the public at the same time as launching its 2014 wines.

Dorset sparkling wine producer Langham Wine Estate is showcasing the brand new 2014 vintages of its three cuvées on Thursday 20th July, coinciding with the opening of its new kitchen, The Vineyard Café, headed up by Andrew James Catering.

The three new wines, available to taste and buy, are the Classic Cuvée 2014, Rosé 2014 and Blanc de Blancs 2014.

Following the official launch in London in June, Langham Wine Estate is delighted to share the new vintages with trade and public onsite, alongside dishes served from the brand new kitchen.

Andrew James’ Vineyard Café will offer homemade seasonal dishes for hungry visitors, complementing the English sparkling cuvées with tasty breakfasts, lunches and snacks.

Justin Langham, owner of the estate, said: “The opening of our tasting room last July meant even more people could come and enjoy our wines a stone’s throw from the vineyard; it was a natural progression for us to build a kitchen to offer delicious local food during their visit.

"Andrew James Catering was an obvious choice as his dishes perfectly complement our wines and ethos of high quality, Dorset produce.”

Daniel Ham, Langham winemaker said: “We’re very proud to finally showcase the 2014 vintages with our customers old and new: from the golden, luxurious Classic Cuvée to the Pinot Noir-driven complex Rosé and our buttery, elegant Blanc de Blancs which we bottle-aged for 24 months on the lees after fermenting in neutral oak barrels.”

The new menu at the Vineyard Café includes breakfast sandwiches on freshly baked bread with free-range eggs, local meat and smoked Arctic char. Lunch dishes include a Winemakers Lunch with home roasted gammon, coastal cheddar, pork and cranberry hand raised pie, rustic bread and chutney, a smoked fish platter, and choice of a daily special savoury tart tatin or quiche.

The Langham vineyard was originally established by John Langham on a very small scale. In 2009 John’s son, Justin Langham, decided to develop his father’s rudimental vineyard into a commercial venture, and planted 30 acres of land at their Crawthorne farm.

With a south-facing aspect, chalk soils and a unique microclimate, Crawthorne vineyard provides the perfect terroir for ripening the classic Champagne varieties – Chardonnay, Pinot noir and Pinot meunier. Established hedgerows provide natural wind breaks and habitat for a large variety of beneficial organisms. Growing their own grapes means they can pick at optimum ripeness, free from the shackles of contract purchasing and resulting in a better quality wine.

Join Langham Wine Estate on Thursday July 20, between 5pm and 8pm to experience the new wines and try delicious tasters from the Andrew James Catering Vineyard Café. Click here to register your interest – it’s free entry and guests can purchase full meals from the kitchen and glasses or bottles of wine at the bar.
