Award-winning folk duo Belinda O’Hooley and Heidi Tidow arrive at Bridport Arts Centre tomorrow hot from hearning that Mojo magazine has named their new, third CD Hum Album of the Month.

Just a month after its release, Hum, has been acclaimed by critics as album of the year and ‘poetical folk music for the times we live in’.

As if that wasn’t enough for the two Yorkshire lasses to celebrate, Burton Bradtock’s own Billy Bragg contacted them last week and asked them to perform in his Left Field spot at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

“We are thrilled to bits,” said Belinda. “Billy heard our album and got in touch and asked if we would play his Left Field area.

“It’s a round-up of people with something to say about the current state of affairs. That sort of thing really helps, because we are all doing what we are doing and trying to earn a crust.

“I think the recent revival in folk is like the real ale revival.

“People are fed up of the whole corporate thing, of drinking boring fizzy lager. They want to get back to their roots.”

The gig starts at 8pm.

The Electric Palace’s regular ‘club’ night Hi-Life is going from strength to strength, with tomorrow night’s theme being a Fip Fok Special with Coco and the Butterfields plus Hi-Life Sound system DJs.

Fip Fok is a term used to describe the unique fusion of Folk, Pop and Hip Hop.

Within the two years since their formation CoCo have earned themselves the title of the UK’s best unsigned act, a quarter of a million YouTube hits and have shared a stage with internationally renowned artists King Charles, Bastille, Seasick Steve, The Pogues and Wheatus.

The session starts at 10pm and admission is £5.
