FOLK fans will be flocking to Poole at the weekend for Folk on the Quay.

The free family folk festival is being held on the quay from June 28 to 29.

The free two-day live music festival will see an outstanding line up of over 20 acts playing across four stages, with fringe events at many local pubs and restaurants.

Developed by Poole Tourism, working with folk music event organisers Paul and Catherine Burke, the event includes a main outdoor stage at The Thistle Hotel and stages at the Fish Shambles, the Poole Arms and the Custom House. Confirmed acts during the weekend include emerging talent Big Tent & the Gypsy Lantern, described as if Mumford had tea with Yes.

The band brings fun to a set featuring guitar, ukulele, accordion and brass plus anything else that comes to hand.

With their own brand of cool Celtic rock, The Churchfitters fizz with energy. Look out for the bass guitar made out of a frying pan and musical saw and prepare for something rather special.

Touring the UK extensively, Fearne have shared the stage with Athlete and Feeder and their heartfelt songs draw inspiration from Americana, Soul and Blues. With a hectic schedule of gigs and festivals Sheelanagig’s intricate and complex music will make you dance your socks off. Prepare for an exhilarating and intense performance – Balkan style.

Sunday’s headline act, the legendary Rory McLeod & the Familiar Strangers bring tales of far flung travels and evocative storytelling into their charismatic and vibrant music. Previously awarded the BBC Folk Awards Best Live Act, Rory has travelled the globe playing with musicians including Michelle Shocked – not to be missed.

On Saturday, the music starts at 12.30pm and goes on until 9pm on the outdoor stages, with many acts continuing indoors on into the evening at pubs and bars along the Quay. On Sunday, performances begin at noon and finish at 7pm.
