GIG GUIDE: A bumper bank holiday weekend of live music

Top of the shop must be the Quayside Music Festival in Weymouth on Sunday and Monday, August 24 and 25.

The mighty Surfin Birds kick it off on Sunday at midday, with the line-up as follows: 1pm: Victorian Barbers, 2pm: Mama Feelgood, 3pm: Mighty Fine, 4pm: Damien, 5pm: Badja, 6pm: Mad Hatters, 7pm: Leggomen, 8.30pm: Stereoironics.

Then it’s a quick tidy up and a whiz round with the Hoover before it all starts again on the Monday with the lovely Boytits at noon, followed by: 1pm: Lauren Bannon, 2pm: Howling at the Moon, 3pm: Jukebox Junkies, 4pm: Vanilla Radio, 5pm: Dr Robert, 6pm: Southern Sinners, 7pm: Bit of Rough, 8pm: Silly Band, 9pm: Peacock Suit.

Meanwhile up in Dorchester, there are three days of live music at Maumbury Rings, starting tomorrow with the Anonymous Festival featuring young bands from around the region, including What!, Cracker Lion, Sahara Head and many more.

On Sundays, it’s the Love Parade, with Amy Mayes, Hustle, Vanilla Radio, the Dinnerladies, Wilma Fingerdo, and many, many more from midday.

And finally on Sunday, there’s the A Listers, Stress with Nina Garcia, Stompin’ Dave Allen and the Mill Street Jazz Band, all from 1.30pm.

Blimey! Maumbury Rings hasn’t seen this much entertainment since the Romans stopped feeding the Christians to the lions.

Looking ahead to next Friday, August 29, there’s a night of new metal at Finns in Weymouth with Bristol grunge beasts Milk Teeth headlining, and admirable support from local heroes Nathan Detroit, Light Fire Down, Summer Drive Home, If9were5 and Tate all tearing the roof off, and it’s free entry! Woop.

Ow, my bleeding ears.

And finally, I’ll be taking over the airwaves of Air 107.2 FM again next Wednesday, August 27, from 8pm to 10pm with yet another Hijacked show.

I’ll be playing all the usual classic vintage soul and funk and all the same old rubbish jokes.
