THE popular series of Weymouth lunchtime concerts is back.

The 2014-2015 season at St Mary’s Church in the town centre resumes on Wednesday with a treat for classical music fans.

Pianist Duncan Honeybourne will be performing alongside violinist Catrin Win Morgan.

The concert begins at 1pm and this season features the complete Beethoven and Brahms sonatas for violin and piano.

Catrin is new to the chamber concerts series, which will be held monthly until June 2015.

Duncan, of Weymouth, said he is pleased with how the series has built up.

“I think this is one of the most enterprising lunchtime concert series on the south coast and this season is very special because we are offering a very rare opportunity to hear the complete piano sonatas of Beethoven and Brahms.

“Opportunities to hear these in the south west are very very rare.

“I very much doubt there has ever been that opportunity in Weymouth before and we are hoping to entice people from even further away.

“It’s also very exciting to have Catrin involved, who has recently moved into the area.

“Catrin came and played in the last session and loved it so much she was very keen to do this,” he said.

The concert series was set up in 2002 by Angela Nankivell, a leading light on Weymouth’s classical music and teaching scene.

Duncan divides his time teaching piano at Sherborne School, Southampton University and Clayesmore School at Iwerne Minster.

Catrin attended Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester from the age of 11 before continuing her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music where she studied with Wen Zhou Li and Yair Kles.

In 2005 she received the Elton John Scholarship to study with Maurice Hasson at the Royal Academy of Music in London where she later became a Leverhulme Chamber Music Fellow.

Catrin is currently head of strings at Sherborne School for Girls.

l The concert is at 1pm on Wednesday at St Mary’s Church. Light lunches are available from 12pm and tickets are £4.50 on the door. The following concert is at 1pm at St Mary’s on October 8 and features Crispian Steel-Perkins on the trumpet, Sophia Grech singing and Leslie Pearson on the piano.
