ROCKABILLY sensation Imelda May is bound for the Pavilion Theatre next month, on November 18.

A festival favourite, Dublin-born Imelda is set to bring her unique fusion of rockabilly, blues and jazz to Bournemouth The gig will showcase her extensive self-penned repertoire, her sassy burlesque-inspired performances and her distinctive interpretation of classic standards.

The tour follows the release of Imelda’s latest studio album Tribal, which rocketed to number three in the UK Album Charts and number one in Ireland.

Her big breakthrough came in 2009 with her first two singles, Johnny Got a Boom Boom and Big Bad Handsome Man.

May has shared stages with an impressive array of musical talent including Alison Moyet, Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross, Bryan Ferry, Anastasia, The Supremes, Sister Sledge, Scissor Sisters, Jools Holland, Elvis Costello and Elton John, to name but a few.

Inspired by such Jazz greats as Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington and the undisputed queen of rockabilly Wanda Jackson, she is forging a contemporary sound all of her own.

With a nod to the glory days of old but with her heart and soul very much in the present, this rockin’ little minx belts them out with all the musical force of a veteran rockabilly wildcat.

Even recently becoming a mother can’t slow the singer down.

Far from mellowing, Imelda sizzles more than ever with her leather-clad attitude on her new album. Tribal is as primal a rock ’n’ roll record as you could ever find, infused with the spirit of Sun Studios, where the sound was born in Memphis, Tennessee, but given a 21st century twist by a girl from the back streets of Dublin.
