A VARIED events programme is on the cards for Purbeck Art Week.

The festival will feature artwork, concerts and a range of talks.

It takes place from Saturday May 23 to Sunday June 7.

Events will be held in Swanage, Harman's Cross, Wareham, Worth Matravers, Kimmeridge and Kingston.

The theme this year is ‘Out of the Depths’ – tapping into the Jurassic rocks and sea that influence Purbeck’s landscape and our creative imaginations.

Some of the events reflect this theme; there is a talk on ‘From the Jurassic Depths’ by local fossil experts (Tue May 26), another on the trauma of artists emerging from the depths of WW1 (Fri June 5) and a concert that takes us on a musical journey ‘Out of the Shadows’ from darkness to light (Sat May 23).

The Fieri Consort – one of the UK’s most exciting young vocal groups - are welcomed back, along with members of the BSO playing a programme of music for wind ensemble including Debussy and Dvorak (Wed June 3).

The Gabrieli Consort returns with a stunning programme of Renaissance choral works (Sun May 31).

There will also be newcomers such as Colin Booth and his ‘Fantastic Harpsichord’ recital (Sat May 30).

And returning to the Festival this year is Miranda Fulleylove, a local professional violinist, who, with friends, presents a concert of ‘Making Music with Beethoven’ (Sat June 6)

Local experts will give a range of illustrated talks including on Helen Muspratt, a pioneering Swanage artist and photographer (Weds May 27), and on ‘Five chairs, a clock and a harpsichord’ – a celebration of beautiful handmade objects to use, look at and listen to (Fri May 29).
