YOU don’t need to go all the way to Vienna if you’re looking for musical entertainment this weekend, we’ve got more than enough round these parts, thank you.

We’ve got pop, rock, punk, folk, jazz, reggae, blues, swing, ska, blues and metal.

We’ve also probably got a bearded trannie or two somewhere if that’s the sort of thing that floats your boat.

So move over Eurovision and welcome to another bank holiday weekend in Weymouth and its environs.

First up, there’s the monster bash that is the Fayre in the Square in Hope Square, Weymouth, on Sunday and Monday, May 24 and 25, with a host of top acts and attractions.

The line-up for Sunday, starting at the ridiculously early time of 1030am, is Louisa Glanville, The Weymouth Ukuleleans, WOW, Under The Carousel, Acoustic Rooster, Shooter, The Silhouettes, and Darron Gunter while Monday’s fun kicks off again at 10.30am with the Ukuleleans, Dorset Wrecks, Ed Hintze, Gut and Steel, Skint Imperials and the Average Wyke Band.

It promises to a fun packed couple of days all organised by the good people of Weymouth Rotary with proceeds going to several local charities

Over the Town Bridge on the other side of the harbour, there’s another Quayside Music Festival at the Rendezvous, with two days of quality performers - established acts and quite a few new faces too - on the Sunday and Monday.

Sunday kicks off at midday with Lauren Bannon, followed by Dave Powell, Seabass and the Fellas, Mighty Fine, Skimmity Hitchers, Hustle and the Stereoironics, with Peacock Suit taking the party indoors from 10pm.

Monday’s line up is Morgan Lily from midday, hotly pursued by Jukebox Junkies, Amy Mayes and the Change, The Riffs, Ten Bob Notes, Fever Dog, Total Madness and the Guise.

And musical behemoth Danny Adams is hosting a big ol’ bash on Sunday, May 24, at the rather swish Ayya bar in downtown Weymouth before heading back to the States for musical travels and adventures.

There’s a quality bill with Amy Mayes and Andy Grant, Morgan Lily, Jamie Pinnow, Stacey Lou, The Leggomen and Jenny Woodruff all doing a turn. It all kicks off at 3pm and should be quite a send-off for the guy.

More? You want more?

Okay then you insatiable party animal, you.

It’s the Spring Break at the Lazy Lizard in Weymouth on Sunday, with The Leggomen, Seabass and the Fellas, Paisley, Under the Carousel and Blazing Strings entertaining through the day and night from 3pm.

And up at The Boot there’s another two-day bash in the glamourous setting of the Municipal Offices car park with Barney Newman, Pete Christie, Shakespearos and Elliott and Rapunzel on the Saturday from 3pm.

And on Sunday, again from 3pm, it’ll be Lauren Bannon, Dave Griffiths, Gut and Steel and Logan Carter entertaining the punters.

Well, that’s it for this week. I’ll leave you with the immortal words of Leonard Rossiter’s Rigsby: “ Oh Viennna. It means nothing to me.”

Till next time
