AH, the joys of pop superstardom: The fame, the fortune, the global travel, the privilege, the respect, the joy of playing to vast adoring audiences all screaming your name.
Kylie! Justin! Donny! Elvis! Ringo!
Sadly, and perhaps just as well really, that’s never happened to Boo Hewerdine, the singer-songwriter and producer and hailed as ‘one of the nation’s most consistently accomplished songwriters’.
A quick check of his CV would back that up, penning choones covered by such artists as diverse as Chris Difford and Mel C, The Corrs and David McAlmont, Paul Young and Canadian lower case aficionado kd lang.
He also wrote the Novello-nominated Patience of Angels for Eddi Reader, so it’s clear he knows his onions when it comes to songs.
And there’s a chance to see and hear this remarkable musician when he makes a third appearance at the Sunray Folk Club on Thursday June 25.
The club, which is now entering its EIGHTH year (Blimey, some most pop careers don’t last that long) meets every month at the village hall in Broadmayne and Sunray head honcho (bless you!) Bob Kirkpatrick tells me: “We are Thrilled Boo is coming down for his third show with us.
“Over the years we have booked big names but also given the lesser known artists a chance which has worked well for us.

“The list of artists that have graced our stage are impressive.....Tim Laycock, Jez Lowe, Cloudstreet, as well as local stars such as Damian Clark and Ray Mitchell.
“The evenings are totally unplugged and we have created a warm intimate atmosphere,” Bob adds.
It’s certainly a successful formula and tickets for Boo’s show are £8 and available from the club website at sunrayfolkclub.co.uk
Incidentally, did I tell you that I’m such an easy-going bloke I wouldn’t say BOO to a goose. This would explain why I lost my job as a livestock frightener.
Anyways, moving on, Bob Dylan homage-istes The Million Dollar Bash make their first public appearance since the tragic loss of Tom Caulfield tomorrow, Saturday, June 13, at Tom Browns in Dorchester.
Now, filling Tom’s enormous ginger boots is some ask, but the band of Kipper Roberts and Roye Membury on guitars and vocals, Ady Milward on drums, Chris Lonergan on bass and Tom Hughes on #HAMmond organ, will be joined by none other than Tom’s great mate and former ballroom dance partner George J Hall on lead guitar.
It promises to be hugely emotional occasion and a celebration of not just all things Dylan, The Band Neil Young and assorted other hairies, but of Tom too.
And finally, don’t go marching 500 miles to Bridport tomorrow night for The Proclaimers’ gig at the Electric Palace if you don’t have a ticket as it’s a complete sell-out, as is tomorrow’s Ska Fest at the Spice Ship in Weymouth. All tickets sold!!
And finally, I have to disagree with Sir Tim Rose’s remarks about male and female scientists working side by side in laboratories.
This should be allowed to continue. I mean, who’s going to put the kettle on?
Till next time, probably....
