HURRICANES, tornadoes, whirlwinds, snow drifts, a year’s rain in five seconds, a plague of flying ants, frogs and locusts, thunderbolt and lightning. (Very, very frightening).

Yes, it can only mean one thing: British Summer Time is well and truly here and there are a host of live music outdoor events for you to enjoy while sporting a snorkel, water wings, wellies and a kagool.

Coming up next Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 21, 22 and 23, is the stonking Jurassic Rocks Festival on that Portland, with a great line-up of bands.

Put back from its original date in July, the festival, held on the old Borstal Bash field on the island, is expanding every year and as the organisers tell me: “We hope and aim to get folks to come to the strange little isle at the end of Weymouth and take in the delights we have to offer.”

Entertainment lined up for Friday include the rather dubiously named Punk On Your Hits, plus local faves C Sharp Blues.

Saturday’s menu has the lovely and fragrant Zoe Schwarz and Jilly Ann, old skool punks The Skones, rockers Light Fire Down and BiProxy, plus festival regulars Jack Ratts and ska specialists Rat Race.

There’s a full day of fun on the Sunday with Chill, Xander and the keys and The Leylines among the highlights.

Tickets and all the gumph are available from jurassicrocks.co.uk And this Sunday August 16, it’s time to dig out your Thermos and scotch eggs for Party in the Park at Lodmoor Country Park in Weymouth.

Hosted by those lovely folk at community radio station Air FM 107.2, there’s yet again another great bill, featuring Triple Threat, Wilson, Dexeter, the young stars from Pop Club plus an. all-too-rare, ahem, outing from The Leggomen. Get your blanket down for an 11am start and the fun goes on till 6pm.

And this Wednesday, August 19, it’s Weymouth Carnival which, as everyone knows, is traditionally an excuse for men to put on women’s underwear and cling to the back of a tractor as its drives up the seafront.

As well as all the usual attractions, such as the Red Arrows, the seafront charity stalls and the procession, there’s a bumper bonanza of live music on the beach stage, with Michael Radioplay Perkins, Dorset Wrecks, Lauren Bannon plus, the unfeasibly groovy Dutch Solo Mouses topping the bill.

Not only are the trio of Smudger Smith, Phil Evans-Jones and Ady Milward top, top players and fine upstanding gentlemen, the band’s name is a really clever anagram.

And finally, it’s farewell to the Ferrybridge pub in Wyke Regis, Weymouth this weekend.

The pub is closing for redevelopment and they’re going out with quite a bang tonight, Saturday and Sunday with quite a lot of ale and cider, plus music from Replay tonight, Party Animalz, Ed Hintze and Chloe Tom and Jack tomorrow and the Leggomen and Stacey Lou on Sunday.

Right, that’s it for this week, till next time.
