JUST as some of the world’s top boffins were due to announce their discovery of a cure for the summertime blues, there it was... gone.

Don’t tell me, you probably blinked and you missed it.

But don’t you go a’weeping into your Weetabix, because there’s a packed programme of fabulous live music to entertain you through the autumnal months, starting tomorrow night, Saturday, September 12 at the Corn Exchange in Dorchester.

Yes, it’s the new season of DA Blues sessions and they’re hitting the ground dancing with crack blues outfit The Producers.

The Bournemouth-based four-piece have been tearing it up around the world for the past 25 years with founder members Harry Skinner (vocals and guitar) and Dave Saunders (bass) joined by Ray Drury on keys and Biff Smith on drums.

They worked with some of the biggest names in the blues world, including Taj Mahal, Robert Cray, Peter Green and John Mayall, and that is what you call pedigree, chum.

Tickets for tomorrow night are £13 from the box office on 01305 266926.

Now then, I don’t know about you but it’s been ages since I got my dulcimer out and gave it a good seeing to.

And if you’re an aficionado of the accordion and a well-bashed balalaika, and let’s face it, who isn’t?, you’d be well advised to make a date in your dairy for the visit of rising folk starlets Kara at the Bridport Arts Centre next Saturday, September 19.

Their debut album Waters So Deep received rave reviews last year and made it into the Telegraph’s top ten folk releases of 2014, and the band of Russian-born Daria Kulesh on vocals, Kate Rouse on dulcimer, Ben Honey on guitar and Gary Holbrook on accordion have been going down a storm on the UK folk circuit.

Tickets are available from the box office on 01308 424204.

Oh and, don’t forget, if you want your gig featured in these hallowed pages, drop an email to gigs@dorsetecho.co.uk Till next time…
