CHRIS Rea has just programmed his sat nav for ‘Home’, Noddy’s hanging up his stocking on the wall, the boys from the NYPD choir are singing Galway Bay and I’ve just plopped my sprouts in a vat of boiling goose fat.

Yes, we’re hurtling headlong into that most wonderful time of the year, when we show our loved ones how much we care by exchanging socks and deodorant and remember those less fortunate than ourselves by bombing them. Happy Christmas.

And if you’ve been a good boy and/or girl all year and you were hoping for some great live music, Santa’s all ready to empty his bulging sack all over your lugholes.

Take next Friday, December 11 fr’instance when it’s the return of the mighty Cuba Libre.

The Weymouth-based outfit have had a short break recently but are back with a blinkin’ big drum’n’bass bang with a gig at the Lazy Lizard.

As mainman Lewis Chambers tells me: “We’ve been off it for a while but we now have Morgan Lily on vocals and Zoe Crage on drums.

“It’s an all-originals set and our sound is a big mash-up of reggae, funk, drum’n’bass and rap and we’ve got plenty of gigs lined up, not only in Weymouth but also Bristol and Wales.

“We’re also being booked up for festivals across the country for next summer,” he adds.

Great stuff indeed, and support next Friday comes from Bridport’s premier hip-hop funsters The Napkings.

But if you can’t wait until next Friday to sate your uncontrollable live music urges, there’s another monster outbreak of metal-induced mayhem at Finns in Weymouth tonight, Friday, December 4.

It’s the last show of the year from promoters Uprising Music and they’re going out with a large one tonight with the return of post-hardcore rockers Saint The Sinner.

They’ll be supported by Plymouth moshers Refuge of the Fallen, Bloodsworn from Bournemouth and Weymouth’s very own starlets As Flames Rise.

It’s a mere three quid on the door tonight.

Till next time.
