BANK holidays are like buses: Dirty, noisy, crowded and you wait for ages and then a few turn up one after the other.

And you always end up next to some drunken weirdo who tells you what he’s having for tea.

(And I’ve apologised to the court about that, by the way).

Even so, brace yourselves, ladies, as this May Day weekend is a bus full of great live music entertainment, kicking off with the absolutely mahoosive Teddy Rocks 2016 bash at Blandford.

Four days starting tonight, Friday April 29 and running through to Monday May 2, with such monster bands as The Hoosiers, In Me, King Blues, From The Jam and Don Broco playing at what started out as an all-day bash in The Greyhound pub a few years ago into what it is now: A major festival which raises thousands of pounds for Teddy20, a charity formed to fight cancer in children.

Congratulations to Tom Newton and his amazing team for putting it all together and pulling it off.

You can shizzle all the bizzle at teddyrocks.co.uk.

And, as ever, there’s shedloads of stuff going on in Weymouth with the two-dayer at The Boot on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1, featuring Logan Carter, Skint Imperials and Total Madness among others on the Saturday, and Lauren Bannon, Danny Adams and the Surfing Birds on the Sunday. Both days from 3pm.

Over the Town Bridge and it’s another Tea on the Quay at the Rendezvous on Sunday, May 1, with another top line up from midday, including Hustle, Leggomen, Amy Mayes, Ten Bob Notes, Blazing Strings and the Stereoironics.

Looking ahead, and it’s quite a coup for the Dorchester Arts Centre with a gig from the almost legendary Tom Robinson at the Corn Exchange on Thursday, May 5.

He made his name with such belters as 2468 Motorway, Glad to be Gay and War Baby back in the day and has forged a career as a respected broadcaster and DJ.

His one-man show features some of his great songs plus some guffaw-inducing tales from his five decades in the insane world of the music business.

Promises to be quite an evening, support come from Gravity Drive, and tickets at £18 are available from the box office on 01305 266926.

And finally, the Bowie: An Evening of Sound and Vision event at the New Vic in Weymouth on Easter Sunday by one-off local supergroup The Kings of Oblivion raised the princely sum of £2,105.69 for Weldmar Hospicecare Trust and most of the band managed to meet up last week to present the cheque to Diane Bentley of Weldmar.

Huge, huge thanks to everyone who took part, helped out and came along and donated.

Till next time...
