GENTS, dig out your best budgie smugglers. Ladies, dust off your flips flops (and put a bra on).

Summer’s here and the time is right for, well, not exactly dancing in the street but getting out and enjoying the sunshine.

And what better place to start than next weekend, Saturday, June 18, at the Chesil Rocks festival at Langton Herring, near Weymouth.

Now in its fifth year, this charming festival has grown and grown and is a real favourite with all the family.

Set in the beautiful surroundings of Higher Farmhouse, overlooking Chesil and the Fleet, the event is again organised by Tim and Hilary Warren.

And they’ve attracted an impressive array of music and comedy talent, from both locally and further afield. Just take a butcher’s at this lot: Jess Upton and the Guilty Pleasures, The Mighty Fine, Jolly Boys Outing, C Sharp Blues, Million Dollar Bash, Hustle, Slipstream, plus many, many more.

Not only does it promise to be a fabulous day out, but you can also get that warm feeling inside (no, not indigestion or incontinence) that you’re helping raise money for a worthwhile cause, and in Chesil Rocks’ case, it’s The Samaritans.

The festival sold out in 2013, 2014 and again last year, so don’t be a muppet and get your tickets sorted NOW. There are only 500 available at £15 for grown-ups (okay, I know… ) £7.50 for oiks aged 11-16 and it’s free for nippers under ten.

Get all the shizzle and indeed the bizzle at chesilrocks.com Moving on, and singer-songwriter Edd Bleach has been seen in some pretty cool places lately, wearing his orange suit and perched on his beer crate.

The blonde bombshell has recently entertained at Teddy Rocks, the Wessex Folk Festival and is at the Wimborne Folk Festival this weekend.

And he finally got to play at the Quayside Festival in Weymouth last bank holiday weekend after years of hoping.

As he tells me: “They even got me a beer crate to stand on, so it was all good fun. I’d say that it’s probably the most people I’ve played in front of, so I’m glad I finally got the chance to do it.”

Edd famously set up his own rival one-man festival last summer, Me on the Quay, after not getting on the bill at the Quayside.

As well as all this, he’s also recorded his debut album Let Me Play which is launched next Friday, June 17, with a bash at the Old Town Hall in Weymouth.

Edd takes the punk DIY ethic very much to heart, as he explains: “I’ve got a lot of songs but no recordings of them.

“So I borrowed a mic from a mate, downloaded a free trial version of some mixing software and did the cover artwork on my phone.”

BOSH, and job’s a good ‘un. Punk’s definitely not dead!

He’ll be joined next Friday by Ian Tew, who will be banging things about in the background as percussionists tend to do, and violinist vamp Laura Mulhern.

Support comes from rockers Light Fire Down and the rather gorgeous Half-Dead Darlings and tickets are a mere £3.50, or a tenner if you want Edd’s album on arrival, and are available from Edd’s Bandcamp page.

Oh, and Edd says there may well be cake, so I’ll see you down the noshpit.

And finally, it’s SkaFest IV tomorrow, Saturday, June 11, at the Spice Ship in Preston, Weymouth. And if you haven’t got a ticket, you are officially a muppet because they’ve all gone! Yep, the event is sold out.

But if you’re lucky, you may get one from a ska-lper outside. (See what I did there?) Till next time…
