YOU don’t need a doofus like me to tell you it’s been a pretty grim time on the celebrity deaths front recently.

This year has seen the passing of Bowie, Prince, Wogan, Corbett, Wood, Ali, Cruyff, Daniels, Martin, the list seemingly is endless.

And it was at Christmas 2015 that we lost one of the hardest living and hardest rocking of them all, the great Lemmy Kilmister out of Motorhead.

It was incredible that he lasted all of 70 years, given his track record for excess and fast-living and, as with many of our stars, it’s probable we’ll never see their like again.

So it’s down to tribute bands to carry the flame, and when it comes to Lemmy and his band of black leather-clad rascals, there’s none better than the brilliantly named Motorheadache, who will be turning it up to at least 12 at Finns in Weymouth tomorrow night, Saturday, October 1.

Fronted by Lemmy nut Rob Campbell on Rickenbacker bass and cowboy hat and aided by Al Leach on guitar and Dave Nutter on drums (Has there ever been a better name for a drummer? No, I don’t think so), the trio have some 700 gigs across the UK and Europe under their leather-studded belts.

The band feature all the big tunes from the classic Fast Eddie Clarke era, including Ace of Spades, (obvs) Overkill, Bombers etc but also more relatively recent material including Killed By Death, Sacrifice, Death or Glory and In The Name of Tragedy.

I’m no Sherlock Holmes, but do I detect a theme going on here?

Anyway, it’s £6 on the door at Finns tomorrow night.

Incidentally, did I tell you about the time I pushed in front of Lemmy at the Sun in Splendour pub in London’s Portobello Road back in the day?

I didn’t realise it was him until I looked up at the black US Cavalry hat and I can still feel the menace burning from his facial warts, like two pus-filled Death Stars.

Moving on, and tomorrow night, Saturday, October 1, sees the return of the ever-popular Spikedrivers to the Corn Exchange in Dorchester for another DA Blues session.

If you like the raw blues of Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, Big Bill Bronzy, with a bit of gospel and rockin’ geetar thrown in, you’ll have probably already got your ticket for tomorrow night.

But if you haven’t and you fancy it, they’re £13 and available from 01305 266926.

And finally put on your RED dress mama cos we’re going out tonight. And you can put on your RED shoes and dance the blues as well while you’re at it.

Yep, it’s the Seeing RED songwriters showcase tonight, Friday, September 30, at the Old Town Hall in Weymouth featuring original material from some of our foremost tunesmiths Rob Ryan, Edd Bleach and David Gordon.

It’s just £2 on the door from 8pm this evening and you get to hear all original songs and also look forward to time Edd teams up with guys called Andy, Richard and Steve.

Good work, chaps.

Till next time
