IMAGINE you’re a tribute act, one of the best in the country, and you’re invited to a competition on national television to find out who is the best, the most authentic, most realistic.

The show’s going well, you’ve all done your best and everyone is so supportive and respectful even though it’s a contest.

And the last singer comes to the stage. She’s been so shy, hardly speaking as other singers came and went.

She’s so nervous she’s almost going to be sick, but she steps up to the mic, a tentative smile and she starts singing, and blows everyone out of the water by some distance. KA-BOOM!!

Yes, it is the real Adele, cunningly transformed by the BBC’s make-up department for Graham Norton’s Adele special programme in 2015 and all the other girls, and a drag queen I believe, are left stunned.

One of those girls, Katie Markham, has gone on to be hailed as one of the best Adele-istes in Europe and is bringing her show Someone Like You to Weymouth Pavilion, next Friday, January 20.

It’s a stylish celebration of one of the country’s most popular singer-songwriters, featuring tracks from Adele’s multi-million catalogue, including all the biggies including Make You Feel My Love, Chasing Pavements, Hello and Skyfall (which I can never hear without singing “Would you like a plate of trifle?” as the second line).

Katie is backed by a quality band of keys whizz and musical director Liam Holmes, Drew Lowe on guitar, Johnny Brister on drums and Mike Kenna on bass and backing singers Natalie Smith and Mary Garbe.

Tickets are available from the box office on 01305 783225.

Moving on, and there’s a treat for folk fans tomorrow night, Saturday, January 14 with a show from Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman.

The two-times BBC Folk Award winners (Best duo, 2013 and 2016) are at the Comrades Hall in Broadwindsor.

They’ve been making music together for many years and have worked with such notable artists as Cara Dillon, The Levellers, Kate Rusby and many more from the folkie genre.

Tickets for tomorrow night’s show are £9 and available from 01308 867644.

And finally, Osprey Leisure Centre on Portland is celebrating its tenth anniversary as a community run project and they’re having a bit of a bash to celebrate.

The complex at Castletown is open all day so if you fancy having a go at any of the many sports and activities they offer there or even lose a few of those Christmas pounds in the gym, you’re more than welcome.

And they’ve got live music in the bar in the evening from 6pm with Gut and Steel, followed by Micky Biggs and Friends from 8 through to closing. Happy days indeed.

Till next time…
