WELL, bit of a quiet weekend all round really, I mean, there’s not much going on is there? And what did the Romans ever do for us?

Apart from Teddy Rocks over at Charisworth Farm at Blandford, starting tonight, Friday, May 4, through to Sunday, May 6.

Tonight is tribute band night, with Foo Forgers, Blurd and The Stereoironics on the main stage. Feeder and Mallory Knox are the big names tomorrow night, and Ash, The Magic Numbers, InMe and Spector top the bill on the Sunday.

Tickets from teddyrocks.co.uk and let’s see if Tom Newton and his magnificent team can top last year’s amazing £76,000 raised for the Teddy 20 charity which goes to support children with cancer and their families.

Yes, okay, apart from Teddy Rocks then...

Well, there’s the two-day Quayside Music Festival by the Town Bridge in Weymouth on Saturday and Sunday, May 5 and 6, with The Rock Apes, The Undecided, The Riffs and Speedway Snails among those playing on the Saturday.

Sunday’s line-up features Dorset Wrecks, Cherry Pickers, Skimmity Hitchers and The Chase. Both days start from midday.

Yes, okay, but apart from Teddy Rocks and the Quayside Festival...

Well, there’s two days of music over at The Boot in Weymouth, again on the Saturday and Sunday, May 5 and 6, with The Skint Imperials and the Lo Numbers among those playing on Saturday and Danny Adams, Stacie Lou and Shooter the pick of the bunch on the Sunday. Both days kick-off from 3pm.

As I said, what have the Romans ever done for us, eh?

Moving on, and Weymouth has always had a great heritage of bands going all the way back to the post-Beatles beat boom of the early 1960s and a few of the most popular are getting back together for an evening of nostalgia next Friday, May 11 at Weymouth’s Centenary Club.

Crystal Ship, Dishley Grange and The Katz (featuring members of the Crescendoes) will be dusting off their Telecasters and putting in their best set of teeth for a great night of good time rock’n’roll.

There’s a just a few tickets left from the club on 01305 839310 and the whole shebang will be raising money for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and the DCH Cancer Appeal.

The evening will be a fitting tribute to Dave Gumbrell who took part in the original reunion last September but has since moved on to the great gig in the sky.

And the next generation of musos are hitting the road as Weymouth College music students have put together a showcase to flaunt their chops. Their Discovered show is at Finns in Weymouth next Tuesday, May 8, the Three Compasses on Wednesday, May 9, The Ship at Wool on the Thursday, May 10 and finally Tom Browns in Dorchester on Friday, May 11.

And finally, it’s huge props to The Shakespearos who are headlining a festival of punk rock at the legendary Dublin Castle up in that London tomorrow, Saturday, May 5.

The Weymouth-based punk revisionists played at the famous Camden Town venue last year with a slot at the Polyfest bash in memory of X-Ray Spex singer and punk icon Poly Styrene, and so impressed were the promoters, they got the diary out and offered them a gig there and then.

There, who says drummers can’t blow their own trumpet?

Have a safe and fun bank holiday weekend, kids.
