HAVE a blast and raise your voice in a traditional festive celebration by joining in with an ‘ad hoc’ rendition of Handel’s Messiah at Dorchester Arts centre this weekend.
Directed by John Surcombe from Guernsey, who is well-known for having directed The Messiah in a pub three times, the call has gone out to all musicians and singers to come along and take part on Sunday night.
The event is being organised by Helen Coombes and John Bullock, who are better known as popular folk combo y’Strels Band and it comes three years after John’s last and hugely successful pub Messiah in Dorchester.
Helen said: “We still need some players for the band, so if you play violin, viola, cello, double bass, oboe or trombone to a reasonable standard and would like to join in, please get in touch.
“There will be a rehearsal for the band, at Dorchester Arts Centre from 4pm to 6pm. We are also hoping that lots of people will come along to sing in the chorus. The Messiah is for anyone and everyone who can sing or who just likes the music.”
To join the Messiah band, email Helen at helen.music@hotmail.co.uk by Sunday lunchtime.
John added: “The last time we staged the Messiah in a pub it was a huge success, really good fun and rather raucous. We are hoping that this one will be equally excellent.”
The Messiah is at Dorchester Arts Centre at 8pm on December 11. Tickets £5 from 01305 266926 and on the door.
