CUH, youngsters today eh? Hoodie-wearing, good for nothings who fester in their pit all day, grunting and texting each other their l8test whatevas, innit m8, blud. Sorted. And, indeed, safe.

Well, not exactly, no. Far from it.

Take next Friday and Saturday, for example.

Friends of a young man who died at the age of just 22 have got together and organised a two-night band bash to mark the first anniversary of his tragic death and also raise money and awareness of the Epilepsy Sucks UK charity.

Young dad Tom Roy died at his Portland home on Father’s Day last year from an epileptic seizure, an illness which had plagued him for most of his short life.

What makes it more tragic is that it could have been prevented with an anti-suffocation Sleep Safe pillow if only his family had known about their existence.

As I’ve said, the gig at Finn’s in Weymouth next Friday, June 15 and Saturday, June 16, is to raise awareness of these potential life-savers and the excellent work of the charity.

The event kicks off on Friday at 7.30pm with Edd Bleach, followed by Nathan Detroit, Diss, This Fall, The Dinnerladies and finally, a special one-off performance from the reunited Fatal Fourway, one of Tom’s favourite bands.

On Saturday, again from 7.30pm, the line-up reads: Griever, followed by Asbestos, As Flames Rise, Eden in Vain and the rather fab Kill The Conversation rounding it all off from 11pm.

As Lily-Smash Jarvis, one of the main event organisers, tells me: “It’s not been as hard as I thought it would be. Once the bands started to say yes, the whole thing really got rolling. It’s the first time I’ve done something like this, so it’s all good!

“We’ll be having buckets around Finn’s on both nights so if anyone has any loose change, every little helps.”

Admission is £3 for one night, £5 for both nights and wristbands will be available for proof of payment.

All money raised goes to the Epilepsy Sucks UK charity and you find out more details of their amazing work at esuk.uk.com Now then, next Saturday, June 16 is the last of the Bluesnights before the summer break and they’re going with bang in the five-foot stick of dynamite that is young Welsh singer Cherry Lee Mewis.

No, that’s what I thought, she’s not a rock’n’roll spoonerism… The dynamic blues and country singer has been receiving rave reviews from artists ranging from Imelda May to Seasick Steve and has recently recorded a session for Radio 2’s Paul Jones.

As always, this is bound to be another sell out at the Dorchester Arts Centre and tickets are available at £12 in advance £13 on the door from the box office on 01305 266926.

Right, that’s it for this week. I am completely jubilated out and it’s time to stop the rain dance. ‘Till next time…
