Are friends eccentric? It’s a good thing to have a healthy range of interests, at least that’s what my defence counsel will say, and the world of music is no different.

My record collection goes from Abba to Zappa with plenty of stops in between and, if I’m honest, I do tend to favour the envelope pushers.

So if you like your music slightly weird with a clever sense of musicality and humour, you might well find yourself at the Beach and Barnicott in bohemian Bridport tonight, Friday, June 22, for a show by Edinburgh Fringe Festival veterans Project Adorno, right.

Often described as the missing link between Kraftwerk and Gilbert and George, this London-based electro-pop duo feature songs about coalhole covers to Newsnight, and have written 26 songs about London Underground stations in alphabetical order.

(From Amersham to Zahid Junction since you ask. No, I hadn’t heard of that one either).

They also claim to be the only band to have played Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum and toured with the delightfully-named Anal Beard. See them tonight in all their Stylophonic glory before they’re locked up.

Now then, talking of tennis and Wimbledon (seamless, eh?), just one look at the torrential rain outside can only mean one thing.

Yes, summer’s here and it’s the start of the Summer Saturday Live series in Dorchester’s South Street.

Starting the season tomorrow, Saturday June 23, at 2pm will be the Andy Grant Trio, below.

The acclaimed blues/roots outfit will be making their first appearance in the town since their sell-out New Year’s Eve bash at the Corn Exchange.

There’s a wide range of music lined up all the way through to the end of August, ranging from pop to folk, classical to Ansell and Gretal.

And finally, it’s been said that old jazz musicians never die, they just smell that way.

So it’s with a tear in my eye and a tear in my surgical support stocking that we say farewell to the Sunday afternoon jazz sessions at The Star in Park Street, Weymouth this weekend.

This Sunday, July 24, will be the last and some of the top jazz musos in the region will be out in force to make it a very special event.

But fear not, the jazz glitterati will be reconvening at The Star on alternate Tuesdays, starting on July 3.

Helpfully, that coincides with pension day at the post office.

See you next time, my pop pickers...
