If only the Olympics had a 3x100m weirdo relay event, then Team GB would climbing the podium to receive its first gold medal this Sunday, July 29.

For those of you with a taste in the bizarre, freaky and darkly humorous, all garnished with some excellent music and imagery, then the gig by Triops in the massive ICCI 360 Dome outside the Pavilion in Weymouth is the place to be.

As Triops asylum director Thomas Hughes tells me: “We sold out the dome on the beach last year, so this time they’ve got us a bigger one.

“We’ve been making films using shedloads of amazing cameras and technology which enables them to be projected on the inside of the dome’s ceiling in a huge panorama.

“We’ve also got some new smells, some old smells, some new ditties and some nudity.

“Oh, and as some huge sporting event is on, myself and my Triops colleagues Lucy Watkins and Rick Veall will be eating each other alive in a cannibalistic frenzy,” adds Tom.

Now there’s something you don’t see every day.

Tickets are £10 on the door and the show starts at 8.30pm.

Moving swiftly on, there are two terrific fundraising gigs this weekend. First up tonight, Friday, July 27, Robbie McIntosh and Friends will be at The Old Ship in Upwey Weymouth, where the axe-twiddler of considerable nift will be helping to raise money for the Sunshine With Smiles charity.

SWS is a Dorset-based organisation which makes medical, educational and sporting equipment available to the people of The Gambia.

Indeed, Weymouth GP Dr Steve Bick and international playboy philanthropist Chris Lonergan recently travelled to Africa to present an ultrasound machine courtesy of General Electrics to the main teaching hospital in the Gambian capital of Banjul.

Tickets are £7.50 on the door but can be reserved by calling Chris on 07803 711438 or Steve on 07774 466543.

And there’s an all-day bash at The Park in Weymouth tomorrow, Saturday, July 28, in aid of the awesome Help For Heroes charity.

Bands lined up to play include: Lo Numbers, Slipped Disc, Freak Circus, Surfin’ Birds, The Fade and many more. The fun starts at 2pm. Good work, fellas!
