DORCHESTER’S Old Skool Reggae Night is back by popular demand for another year.

The night of reggae music and food is being held at the Corn Exchange on Saturday, October 12 after it proved a roaring success last year.

The event, which starts at 6pm, is being held to celebrate Black History Month and is free to attend.

The 2013 Reggae Night will focus on the role played by some of the many inspirational black and ethnic minority role models.

It is being hosted by the South West Dorset Multicultural Network (SWDMCN), a local group with a track record of putting on well- organised family events to help celebrate different cultures.

Dave Corbin from the SWDMCN said the Corn Exchange event promises to be no different.

He said: “There’s music, there’s song, there’s food, what’s not to like?

“Come along and enjoy yourself.”

Chairman of the group Anne Marie Vincent said she was delighted to see the event being held for a second year and hoped it would enforce the message of the Black History Month. She said: “Whilst negative portrayals of black and ethnic minority people still continue, our Black History Month annual event is about celebrating the achievements of people from black and minority ethnic groups and acknowledging their role in UK society.”

There will be Caribbean food on offer from 6.30pm, which has been provided by Weymouth College, and a bar will be open.
