A POPULAR teacher will be giving a farewell concert with the Thomas Hardye Singers in Dorchester on July 5.

James Baker, who has been director of music at The Thomas Hardye School for the last six years, will conduct and play an oboe concerto at St Peter’s Church before he moves on to pastures new in Surrey.

In his time at the Dorchester school he has been responsible for a wide variety of musical activities and opportunities that have been enjoyed by students and staff.

He has run a large number of highly successful performing groups in school and been responsible for impressive GCSE and A level results each year For the past four years, he has also run DASP Music, which co-ordinates music teaching and school concerts in the Dorchester area.

The concert begins at 7.30pm at St Peter’s Church on Saturday, July 5.

Entrance is free and there will be a collection at the end for church and Hardye’s Music Department expenses.

All are invited – especially former students who would like to wish Mr Baker well.
